The district further noted Walsh "excelled in her academics and was a very active student."

Activities in which she was involved included varsity club, varsity soccer, Winter and Spring track, National Honor Society, student council, chorus and ecology club.

She also helped build sets for the school play.

"The district is truly saddened by this terribly tragic event," the statement concluded, noting grief counselors would be available to both students and staff, as needed.

Funeral services for Walsh have been set by the family for this week, but at this time the district said it has no set plans for a separate memorial.
