Lindenhurst Teen Dies Suddenly in Car Crash

Brittney Walsh, 18, was killed last Sunday night in a car crash. Friends and family remembered her at the Thursday night funeral service before she was laid to rest on Friday.

Details of the young lady’s life and passing include the following:

Walsh, of Lindenhurst, passed away on June 24. She was 18.

She was killed suddenly when 31-year-old Babylon resident Michael Grasing struck her car on Montauk Highway and sent it into a utility pole near and Buena Vista Boulevard, Suffolk Police said.

The crash, police said, produced DWI charges against Grasing who was allegedly driving erratically and speeding. Police also said Grasing had a .3 BAC.

Police said Walsh died at the scene.

She graduated from the Walter G. O'Connell Copiague High School on June 22, and finished her first week of work at Kmart in West Babylon when she was killed.

Walsh, a student-athlete who was involved in track and soccer as well as the National Honor Soicety and student council, was headed to York College in the Fall to study sports management.

After being waked on Wednesday and Thursday at the in Babylon, she was remembered by family and friends on Thursday night at her funeral service as happy and caring, as well as a go-getter.

The service was led by Pastor Lee Gangaware of the in Lindenhurst.

Wlash, who was born in Bay Shore, is survived by her parents, Cheryl (nee Grubel) and Thomas.

She's also survived by her brother, Sean; her grandparents, Judy and John Grubel; and Thomas and Beverly Walsh; and many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A vigil attended by friends and some of those closest to Walsh was also held on Monday at the spot where she died on Montauk Highwway. It was adorned with flowers, noted and candles.

Walsh was laid to rest on Friday at Breslau Cemetary in Lindenhurst.

A memorial fund has set up in her honor. It's called The Brittney Walsh Memorial Fund.
