Police: Lindenhurst Teen Killed in Sunday Night Crash

Authorities say the vehicle driven by Michael Grasing of Babylon rear-ended a second vehicle, causing it to flip and strike a utility pole.

A Lindenhurst was killed Sunday night when the car the teen was driving and struck a utility pole.

According to Suffolk Police, Michael Grasing, 31, was driving a 2004 Nissan Westbound on Montauk Highway near Buena Vista Boulevard when he allegedly struck the back of another vehicle that was also travelling Westbound, causing the second vehicle to overturn and strike a utility pole.

The operator of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, but the identity of the person killed is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

A police source told Patch that the individual killed in the crash was a Copiague High School student who lived in Lindenhurst.

Grasing was charged by police with driving while intoxicated (DWI), and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries.

He'll be arraigned on a future date at First District Court in Central Islip, police noted.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, and the investigation is continuing.
