Report: Vigil Held for Lindy Teen Killed in Crash

Saddened friends remember Brittney Walsh, who just graduated from Copiague High School, as sweet and cheerful.

Some of those closest to the 18-year-old Lindenhurst teen who was killed in a car crash on Sunday night gathered earlier this week to remember her.

The vigil on Monday night for Brittney Walsh, according to a report on ABCLocal.Go.com (Eyewitness News), brought together heartbroken friends and fellow students.

They brought flowers and candles to the spot where she  on Montauk Highway after her car flipped several times after allegedly being struck by 31-year-old Michael Grasing, who's been charged with DWI by Suffolk Police.

"She was one of the greatest girls you could ever meet - always cheerful, always smiling," Sean Lee, Walsh's boyfriend told Eyewitness News in the report.

"All I can say is she was the sweetest girl anyone has met, and was so involved...She danced, played soccer for school and on a league team, ran track and was looking forward to going to York college," Lisa Ambramski, 18, Lindenhurst resident and former teammate later told Patch.

Jennifer Hilsenbeck on Patch, "I saw Brittney grow up in our church. She was in my Sunday School class and made confirmation with my son. Although it's been a few years since I've seen her, I can tell you what a sweet, kind girl she was from a nice family. She had everything to live for; so many lives are shattered from this - her family, friends, neighbors - it's a tragedy that should never have happened. My prayers are with them."

Melissa St. Johns wrote on Patch's Facebook page, "I taught her at when she was younger. It's so sad. I don't understand why people drink and drive."

, who just graduated from Copiague High School on Friday night, is being  Wednesday and Thursday at in Babylon.

A funeral service will be offered at the funeral home on Thursday night.

Reverend Lee Gangaware, pastor of the in Lindenhurst, will be officiating the service, according to the funeral home.

Interment will take place on Friday morning, at 10 a.m., in Breslau Cemetery, in Lindenhurst.

Meanwhile, the Suffolk County District Attorney and Suffolk Police are  for the public's help in their on-going investigation into the fatal crash on Montauk Highway near Buena Vista Boulevard and .

At a press conference on Wednesday morning they asked anyone with information concerning the crash or Grasing's whereabouts before the accident to please call the First Precinct at 631-854-8152.

They also Grasing had a blood-alcohol content level of .30 the night he hit Walsh's car and was speeding.

Spota said police were still looking for more eyewitnesses to Grasing's erratic driving and where he'd been before being spotted minutes preceding the crash.

Grasing is expected to be on Wednesday following his release from Good Samaritan Hospital.
