Talk Back Poll: Is There an Alcohol Problem on LI?

With several fatal DWI and BWI crashes in recent weeks, Lindenhurst Patch wants to hear residents' ideas about what should be done to curb drunk driving and boating.

Multiple serious and fatal alcohol-related crashes have recently occurred on the road and on the water.

For one allegedly drunk Michael Grasing, of Babylon, with a slammed into the back of a 's car, rolling her car several times and killing her on June 24. Grasing was charged with DWI, with , police said.

That same weekend an allegedly intoxicated man was when it collided with another in the middle of the Great South Bay, killing one West Islip man and injuring two others.

Also that same weekend two men - - were arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated (BWI) near Ocean Beach in the Great South Bay. 

Several other men were and with drunken driving that same weekend in the Town of Southold, police said.

And on Memorial Day, a Brooklyn woman who police say was drunk and speeding, on Southdown Road. The vehicle nearly hit a 90-year-old woman and her sister inside of the home. .

In the wake of 's death there's now a for a new DWI that calls for alcohol-sensing devices that would render a car useless if an intoxicated person entered the driver's seat be required in every car in New York state.
