Talk Back Poll: U.S. Olympic Uniforms Made in China?

Local congressman slams the USOC's decision not to use outfits made by American workers.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle recently criticized the United States Olympic Committee for outfitting the United States team in Ralph Lauren uniforms made in China.

Representative Steve Israel (D-Huntington) urged the non-profit USOC to reverse the decision and ensure United States athletes wear uniforms made in America.

"It's not just a label; it's an economic solution," Israel said.

"Today there are 600,000 vacant manufacturing jobs in this country, and the Olympic committee is outsourcing the manufacturing of uniforms to China? That's not just outrageous; it's just plain dumb. It's self-defeating."

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said simply of the USOC, "You'd think they'd know better," according to the Associated Press.

"Unlike most Olympic teams around the world, the United States Olympic Team is privately funded, and we're grateful for the support of our sponsors," USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said to the AP.

"We're proud of our partnership with Ralph Lauren, an iconic American company, and excited to watch America's finest athletes compete at the upcoming Games in London."

Many have argued the uniforms should've been made by American workers as United States textile companies struggle through the economic recession.

So, what do you think, Lindy?

Should the United States olympians' uniforms have been made here in the USA? Should they be in the future?
