Vintage Aircraft Coming to Republic Airport

World's only operational B-29 Superfortress to highlight Memorial Day Weekend festivities.

During Memorial Day weekend East Farmingdale’s in Town will host several vintage World War II-era bombers that will be participating in the at .

Among the aircraft on display will be the B-29 Superfortress, a B-17 Flying Fortress and a B-25 Mitchell.

The B-29 was the largest bomber of World War II, and in size, range and payload, represented a significant advancement in technology for the time.

The only operational B-29 in the world is owned and operated by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) and its flight will mark its first appearance over .

The B-17 is owned by the Yankee Air Museum and it is one of the iconic weapons that helped the allies win World War II.

The B-25 is owned by the American Airpower Museum, and is similar to those that took part in the legendary Doolittle Raid on Tokyo.

Scheduled to arrive Friday, the B-29 and the B-17 will be offering flight experiences operating from the ramp of the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport. Tours of both planes will also be offered.

Other planes expected to partake in the Jones Beach air show are the P-47 Thunderbolt from the American Airpower Museum and a P-51 Mustang from Warbirds over Long Island. Among the modern-day warplanes expected is the F-22 Raptor.

• The next meeting of the Babylon Town Board will be held Tuesday, 3:30 p.m. at town hall, 200 East Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.

• Town hall will be closed Memorial Day.
