Keep Your Pets Safe!

  • Thanks to Lost-and Found Pets-of LI for posting!

Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on the entire northeast coast, with that in mind, please keep your pets in mind and these important tips:

WE DO NOT WANT TO SEE YOUR PET'S PHOTO ON OUR PAGE! Do NOT let your pet outside during the storm UNATTENDED or OFF-LEASH for one minute, not one second! DON'T DO IT!

If you are in an area that typically floods, you should already have your EVACUATION plan in order with your pets in mind.

AFTER THE STORM: Do NOT let your pets out before you do the following: *Ensure that your pet is wearing identification such as a collar and tags. A microchip is excellent, but a collar and ID tag will alleviate the length of time it may take to have a lost pet returned to their owner.

*Ensure that your gate is not open, all latches still work correctly and that your fence is still standing securely.

*Ensure that there are no hazards to your pet on the ground at nose and paw level such as down power lines, twigs/branches where they run, broken glass, etc.

*Ensure that your pet is acting properly. A storm can change your pet's behavior dramatically. A normally non-skittish dog, may now be skittish. A frightened pet will take off, try and possibly succeed to hop a 6 foot fence--where there is a will, there is a way.

*Ensure that you have current photos of your pet on hand should God forbid, your pet become lost.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND BE SAFE!

Hi Lindy Native. Thanks for posting these photos. But could you e-mail me at barbara.loehr@patch.comRead More with the originals and some more details? The photos you posted are really blurry/bitmapped. I think if you send the originals and some more info, then a story could be put together for the news section of the site. Thanks!
