After a grueling travel day and reacquainting with my family here in Lindenhurst, I’d like to discuss the last day of the National Republican Convention in Tampa.
I stayed most of the day at the Hilton Hotel in Clearwater Beach with the rest of the New York and Puerto Rican delegations. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful pool and beach, and there was much anticipation of Romney's speech and the appearance of Clint Eastwood. Thanks to the Hilton for their great service and hospitality all week.
My daughter and granddaughter got into town at about 4:30 p.m., and we then had a great dinner together, and headed out for the convention. The atmosphere was electric, and the evening was exhilarating, motivational and entertaining. The speakers gave clarity and insight into Mitt Romney's leadership ability and character, as well as his many accomplishments in both the public and private sectors.
The Forum was packed with press, delegates and guests, and the speeches by Marco Rubio, Newt Gingrich and Jeb Bush and others were emotionally charged and uplifting to the tens of thousands of supporters.
Jeb Bush called upon President Obama to stop blaming his brother for the problems still plaguing this country, and focused how we are falling behind the world in the education of our children
He told us that Mitt Romney raised the educational rankings while Governor of Massachusetts, and he believes that President Romney will help correct the same problem in America.

Marco Rubio gave his enthusiastic support to the Romney/Ryan ticket, and told of his family's journey from Cuba to the United States. Sometimes speaking in Spanish Rubio told the nation that Mitt Romney knew what made American great, and that we could be great once again with Mitt Romney as president.

As expected Mitt Romney's speech was received with applause and enthusiasm from the eager crowd. He praised his running mate Paul Ryan, reached out to immigrants and offered thanks for their role in building America, and hope for a bright future.
Romney expressed pride in founding Bain Capital, which helped companies like Sports Authority and Staples prosper. The crowd went wild with every word, causing Mitt to have to wait many times until the applause subsided. He sure looked and sounded like a president to me!
My guests at the convention, my daughter Michelle and granddaughter Ariana, enjoyed the electricity in the air and the inspiring speeches, and told me it was an evening they would not soon forget. That was enough to make the convention a success.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the appearance of Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood to speak on Romney's behalf.
Eastwood got the biggest applause of the evening, and though his words and presentation were unconventional, they got the crowd excited and showed the world that Romney does have some supporters in Hollywood.
As you know there was as much talk about Eastwood as anybody else after Thursday. So don't let any of the pundits tell you his appearance was a mistake. I think it was the perfect diversion from the norm, and an unexpected pleasure for the crowd at the convention and at home.
It’s been a pleasure sharing my experiences with Patch, and I look forward to attending many more conventions before my political career is over.
Go Romney/Ryan!
