29 Things People Want To See Happen in Lindenhurst

On Thursday we asked Lindenhurst Patch Facebook readers to comment on "It's a new year, and a chance for improvements. What changes do you want to see in Deer Park-North Babylon in 2014?"

Here are their wishes for 2014:

  • The improvement I would like to see is the village give an incentive to the home owners on North Wellwood Ave to clean up their yards and spruce things up a little. Fix the sidewalks to improve peoples first impressions.
  • People attending board meetings and doing less online complaining. Less negativity about our town. Things are looking up if people just opened their minds to it.
  • A traffic light by Broadway and Hoffman (corner of the beverage store)
  • I think they should build something like a playhouse. Something to bring some sort of tourism to the town.
  • I'd like a fancy steak restaurant in the big bank building that is vacant on S Wellwood Ave! Less fast food and more trendy places. Montauk Hwy looks horrible. It needs less fast food joints and a beautification project.
  • We need visionaries to come in to revitalize the town much like what is occurring in Patchogue. They are a revitalization success story. If you haven't been out there I highly recommend it!
  • How about sidewalks and curbs so you can safely walk with your children.
  • They need to fill the store that have been empty for years. Stop bringing in the same store that left in the first place. No more cellphone stores, hair nail and barber shops.
  • All roads fixed!! Potholes on many.
  • Cracker Barrel
  • The bridge on Wellwood that crosses Sunrise Hwy is a total disgusting eyesore. The concrete median is all chipped and broken and packed with weeds.
  • More metered parking for train station. Nice boutiques like Patchogue, Bay Shore.
  • Turn the soon to be "old CVS" into parking!!!
  • A place to be proud of not the way it looks now, stores closed and kids hanging outside in groups smoking drugs!
  • We also need parking spaces downtown. No good restaurant will move there with the limitation in parking.
  • I would love to see a good farmers market with locally grown/made things for sale.
  • In the past 8 years every side street has been repaved around my block...mine he only been patched here and there... I'd love to see ALL of them repaved nicely.
  • I have long thought we could use a Café style bookstore in the Village. One that would host book signings and allow community groups to use the café for meetings like Panera bread does.
  • Really pretty maybe painted garbage cans or .. Maybe we can clean the local buildings on the outside and paint the browning buildings .. And ABSOLUTELY keeping on top if the grass and shrubbery this spring and summer.
  • Look into fixing the flooding when it rains on a high tide.
  • Get the store fronts filled with new businesses and fix the roads!!!!
  • Pave the roads!! South 8th Street is heavily traveled and in desperate need from Kent South.
  • Fix the dock!
  • Trader Joe's would be amazing...let's encourage better choices!
  • Clean up all the bird crap at Firemen's Park; needs handball courts.
  • We need nice bars/lounges like post office not like the brew haus
  • I'd love to see the building torn down on the corner of Montauk & Deauville.
  • A dog run would be nice too.
  • Not so many old age homes being built maybe things more for the youth of Lindy more things for them to do instead of drugs.
