The was a bustle of activity on this year.
Not only did the LML hand out goodies to costumed kids in the Children's Room, but it also concluded the Second Annual Pet Food Drive, which collected food for the of the .
The drive was sponsored by the Young Adult Council of the LML, and had a successful 14-day run, from October 18 to 31 this year.
The drive collected three totes full of food, toys, bowls and many other accessories, and all of it will be donated to the Town of Babylon's Animal Adoption Rescue Center.
The began with the YA Council bringing in Chris Elton, director of the town's shelter, for a .
"He talked to children about the animal shelter, and how wonderful having a pet can be, and he brought a puppy pitbull with him that everyone loved," said Amanda, a young adult librarian at the LML.
"The children here made the signs for the drive; the bookmarks were made. Everything we done very well," she said.
While the drive reached its conclusion on , the library was celebrating the holiday and receiving trick-or-treaters.
A bowl of treats was set up in the children's section. There, costumed trick-or-treaters could stop in for gifts such as pencils, bookmarks, pads, stickers and, of course, candy!
LML officials estimated nearly 50 children had come by the library's all-day celebration. All were in costumes that included zombies, mummies, ghosts and princesses.
The library has also launched a new Veterans Day Food Drive, which is running from . The drive will aid the families of local service people deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere overseas (for other drives this holiday season, click ).
Donations of non-perishable food items could be brought to the library during regular business hours: Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday (September to May), 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
"We thank the Suffolk County United Veterans Food Pantry for its assistance in distribution of the collected food pantry via their military families food pantry," LML officials said.
