Lindy Residents Tell Us Where Stop Signs Are Needed

We asked which roads you think help is needed.

On Monday, we asked readers to tell us which roads in the area were in desperate need of a stop sign. Many responded with their suggestions of local roads where they have seen too many accidents or people are speeding and need to be slowed down.

Many people suggested roads where needed stop signs while some said stop signs get ignored and there needs to be traffic lights at troublesome corners. Other lamented that stop signs have become "optional" for some drivers making for very dangerous situations on the road.

Here is a sample of what people told us:

Nicholas Errico: Nope. They just added a stop sign on Wellwood. Waste of tax $ IMHO. I don't have traffic data for the area, but I haven't seen or heard of anything, personally. I just hope these decisions are made using data interpreted by experts, not just your average Joe Schmoe responding to complaints.

Barbara Stenger: There's a new one on Park Blvd I saw.

Woodro: Since L.A. Fitness opened there doors there are steroid, muscle wanting idiots rushing to get to the gym doing over 60 mph to lift the entire gym...... slow down, before you hurt or kill someone on Park Ave... They no longer have weights in jail...

Nicholas Errico: So I received more information about the stop signs. Neighbors were reporting people speeding down Wellwood (south of Montauk Hwy). This is true, I live down here as well. The Village officials had to make a choice about all of the complaints and the best course of action was to add that stop sign. I wish there was a better way to handle it, but you have to play the cards you're dealt.

Erik Moller: I do not see the need for any more stop signs. I do however see the need for people to start stopping at the ones we already have. For example, I stopped for mine at Kent Ave and S 5 the, and the lady in the other car who approached after I stopped went right on threw. No ever made a attempt at stopping. That's what causing the car crashes....

Kim Kasulka Woodworth: I live right by that corner too, isn't there a four way stop there too? I agree, a lot of people just blow right through. It's amazing. Adding stop signs will definitely not make them stop. I've seen a number of people do that all along Kent.

Marylou Mucci Nowak: Anyway on South Delaware! One does not cut it! People are reaching 40-50 mph when passing Bond which is right near Alleghany! It's horrible!

Bill Goss: Herbert and Beacon

Joanna Michelle: Too many lights too many stop signs.... Enough is enough. Not going to fix bad drivers only policing the areas will.

Erik Moller: Joanna, you nailed it. The Police are not doing enough to keep the roads safe. The village court does not handle it properly either. Traffic violations issued by Suffolk Police here in town are usually dealt with a slap on the wrist. People will start obeying traffic laws if they are hit where it matters, their wallets. Big fines and being consistent with them, people will slow down. And stop being stupid.

Sharon Katzman: There are 2 problems 1st most people are going faster than the posted limit then they just slow down look and go. The other is the stop signs are too far from the corner so people don't think they should have to stop before the corner. Not sure why they are so far back

Lynne Ferrandino: How about a traffic light on the south side of Hoffman Ave and South Broadway? So everyone can turn right or especially left in safety???

John Castelli: Liberty & S. 8th Street
