Lindenhurst School Calendar Approved, Goes Public

Six "emergency days" scheduled for the school year in case of weather problems.

The Lindenhurst School Board approved the district's school calendar for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year.

Included this year are six "emergency school closing" dates for snow days or, as was the case in the wake of Hurricane Sandy last year, other large-scale emergency events.

In the event of missed emergency-based days, the school has marked April 21, May 23, April 14, April 15, April 16 and April 17 as the six days, in that order, that would be used to make up the missed day.

Hurricane Sandy closed Lindenhurst schools for nearly two weeks in October and November 2012, forcing the district to tack on extra make-up days here and there.

The new school calendar also includes the usual noted holidays off, including Rosh Hashanah early in the year on September 5 and 6, right before the technical start of the year.

The major holiday breaks – Christmas/Hannakuh and Passover – are scheduled for December 23 through January 5 and April 12 through April 21, respectively.

The full calendar can be viewed above or on the district website.
