Original Story:
A child riding their bike and a car traveling along Hoffman Avenue collided Wednesday afternoon, sending the child to the hospital with many visible injuries, according to eyewitnesses.

Witnesses on the scene told Patch a child riding their bike southbound on the west side of Wellwood Avenue collided with a car traveling westbound on Hoffman Avenue at around 4:45 p.m.

The child was reportedly rushed to a local hospital with multiple visible injuries, including head wounds. Suffolk County Police Department's Public Information Office confirmed the crash, but did not have any details on those involved.

The scene of the crash was still littered with debris from the collision, including what appeared to be a bloody towel, articles of clothing and a BMX-style bike on the ground.

Meanwhile, traffic around the village has slowed to a crawl as Hoffman and Wellwood Avenues are shut down at the intersection. It is advised drivers take precaution and allow for extra time as the police investigation continues.
