Oasis Deli & Subs Closes Down

A favorite deli of residents closed up shop last week due to high rent and low patronage.

Oasis Deli & Subs has shut its doors, according to multiple notes left on the building's windows and door by its owner.

The delicatessen, which had taken over the location previously operated as Black Forest Deli, had been a favorite of village residents for many years.

"I regret to inform all my friends, neighbors and loyal customers that the Oasis Deli will be shutting down after the close of business on Thursday, Sept. 26th," a note on the door read. "We tried!"

The note explained that high rent and overhead costs had contributed to their decision, along with a myriad of other reasons, including factors from the effects of Hurricane Sandy and government programs. (The full note can be viewed in our photos above.)

The deli's vertical signage appeared to be taken down on Wednesday, leaving the bright green and yellow building looking bare.

The owner noted in the message left on the door that if a new location could be found with cheaper rent and less overhead, Oasis would return.

(Hattip to Around Lindenhurst on Facebook for pointing this out earlier this week.)
