Officials: No Trader Joe's in Lindenhurst for Now

The California-based food chain isn't planning a Lindy location in the near future, according to the company.

As of late there’ve been so many residents who seem to welcome the idea of a Trader Joe’s location right here in Lindenhurst.

And many have as such on the in Lindenhurst Patch’s Visions for Vacancies series where we ask residents to share what they’d like to see in some of the around the .

So Patch went to Trader Joe’s headquarters in Monrovia, California, to ask if it was planning a Lindy location in the near future.

This is what they had to say after a few attempts to get some comment:

“Unfortunately at this time we’re not able to confirm a new location in Lindenhurst or the nearby area. The best place to find information in that regard is on the website, but that information would be made available just prior to any store openings. We wouldn’t be able to confirm until [a store location] is in the actual final stages,” Hazel, in Trader Joe’s customer relations, explained in a voicemail message to Patch.

Currently, there are 19 locations listed on the Trader Joe’s website as “coming soon.” However, Lindenhurst isn’t listed there either.

The closest new Trader Joe’s store on that list is in Westbury. It’ll join other Long Island locations in Plainview, Merrick, Lake Grove, Oceanside, Commack and Hewlett.

So it seems, for now at least, there’ll be no Trader Joe’s in Lindenhurst or in the surrounding area.

What is coming to Lindy is German supermarket chain Aldi, which is slated to open early in 2013.

Read about that and , and weigh in with your thoughts .

Robert I completely understand your comment. And I love it here too. Wishful thinking I guess. On the other hand, as long as we are opening new businesses and creating more jobs, Its better than looking at all these boarded up stores.

Have you ever been to an Aldi's? They are awesome--and owned by the same company who own Trader Joes.

Robert, why do people think Trader Joe's is so expensive? Have you shopped there? Organic produce at a third the cost of a chain super markets. That alone was the clincher for me. Yes there are is very small selection of items that are priced higher than the average supermarket, but the overall savings far outweigh those few items. I shop there exclusively for my family and have saved thousands a year in grocery shopping because of it. Even with the 25 minute drive to Merrick, and the gas used to get there, it is still more affordable than the Stop & Shop 5 blocks away.
