Welcome To Funny

For some of us, belly laughing at least once a day is as important to our survival as breathing, wine, and chocolate.

So when I came across an excerpt to Heidi Clements book, WELCOME TO HEIDI on HumorOutcasts.com, I knew that this was a must-add for my summer reading list.

After sharing a few quips with this funny lady - ok, full disclosure: I commented on her post first and she commented back ONCE, but I'm hoping to come up with something funny enough to say to her on Facebook #NotAtAllFangirling - I got a hold of her rep and begged to meet her. One restraining order later, she took pity on me and sent me a press release to share with Heidi's fellow New Yorkers and fans. I'm still combing through it because I'm sure there's an invite to be her new writing partner hidden in there somewhere, but in the meantime, I highly recommend that you give that laughing thing a try:

Television Writer and Producer Heidi Clements Shows her Comedic Talent in her New Book, Welcome To Heidi

Los Angeles – HumorOutcasts Press has launched Welcome to Heidi, the first book from Television writer and producer Heidi Clements.  The book, a collection of humorous essays, follows the ups and downs of Clements’ life, relationships, career paths and lifestyle choices.  Already scoring big on Amazon.com in pre-launch sales, this book delivers gritty, funny and insightful bits of wisdom, advice and observations for those making their way through the aging process. Already attracting attention from Hollywood and beyond, Welcome to Heidi was the lead story on Page Six of the NY Post, a feature on Extra and blogged about in Parade.com and Huffington Post.

Clements, who presently is one of the writers and producers of the ABC Family sitcom “Baby Daddy”, always knew she wanted to pen a book, but even as a producer in Hollywood, she knew the chances of getting an agent for this project seemed remote.

“A publisher told me that no one wanted to read the musings of a nobody,” Clements recalls. “But she advised me to turn my book into a blog and that’s what I did.  It wasn’t until I talked to my friend Terry Sweeny – former SNL star – that I realized I could just self publish – which I ended up not having to do thanks to HumorOutcasts Press.”

Clements’ essays show off her talent for comedy, and she enjoys writing without a filter. While her essays do pattern her life, she does rely on some exaggeration to get across her message in some of the blog posts.

“I tend to stretch the truth when it comes to the things that happened to me – but everything is based in some sort of truth – even if that truth is just my truth.”

Clements, a native of Staten Island, New York and a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, never shies away about issues that affect women in the 50+ age group, a demographic that is totally underappreciated in her viewpoint – especially in the entertainment industry.

“I think my book may actually scare more women about what’s in store, but the key is to laugh about all of it and you won’t care so much”  suggests Clements.  “And no matter what, never give up on your dreams—no matter how many people tell you no. If it’s meant to be, it will happen. ”

Clements is appreciative of the  response Welcome to Heidi has so far received and concedes a second book might be in the picture in the not-too-distant future.

“Well, it took me so long to explain to my parents how to get on Amazon.com and order my book that I started writing another one while on hold.”
