Lindy School Bus Driver Hailed as Hero After Breakdown on Train Tracks

Bus broke down at crossing on Straight Path Thursday; everyone made it off safely.

A quick thinking bus driver is being hailed as hero after a Lindenhurst school bus became disabled in the middle of a railroad crossing on Thursday, sources told Patch.

With a train approaching, News 12 Long Island reported that the bus driver, known only as Ed to students, told the students to get off the bus. The railroad gates came down a moment later.

One student, Toni Panzer, told News 12 of the ordeal: “I saw headlights [of the train]. I almost cried ‘cause I thought I was going to get hit. But I didn't because Ed saved everybody."

The bus was pushed off the tracks before the train reached the crossing.
