Long-Time Lindy Resident Inge Roeper Passes Away

A memorial service is set for Saturday, May 18, at the Lindenhurst Funeral Home for the former site manager of the 1901 Railroad Depot on South Broadway, former Board member of the Old Village Hall Museum and former member of the Historical Society.

A long-time Lindenhurst resident has passed away.

Inge Roeper, 88, died on April 20, 2013 in Alexandria, Virginia where she spent her final years near her children.

A long-time resident of Lindenhurst, Long Island, she worked at Our Lady of Consolation Home in Amityville and the Nassau County Sanitarium as an assistant cook and a dietician assistant after high school.

Her marriage to Fred Roeper ended in divorce, after which she worked for the card company, Treasure Greetings, riding her bike to work whenever the weather was agreeable.

She was proud of her German heritage and loved to sing. This was reflected in her singing with the Damen Chor Frohsinn singing society for many years until they disbanded. That was followed by her almost 15 years of singing with the Sweet Adelines.

She was a member of the Lindenhurst Historical Society and a member of the Board of the Old Village Hall Museum where she spent many volunteer hours helping with displays and greeting visitors.

In the Summer she was site manager of the restored 1901 Railroad Depot on South Broadway in Lindenhurst for many years.

Roeper had the honor of lighting the Village Christmas Tree in 1998. Another memorable occasion for her was a long-dreamed of trip she and her sister made to Hawaii in 2000.

She's survived by her two daughters, Carla and Nancy Roeper, son, Don Roeper, and grandson, Eric Roeper Dale, all of Alexandria, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at the Lindenhurst Funeral Home at 424 South Wellwood Avenue from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, followed by a burial of her ashes at Breslau Cemetery at the intersection of North Monroe Avenue and Newark Street in Lindenhurst.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Village Hall Museum, P.O. Box 296, Lindenhurst, New York, 11757.
