Report: Former Owner of Windisch's Luncheonette Dies at 88

Frederick Paul Windisch passed away in Florida on June 16, and was memorialized at Pinelawn Cemetery on Saturday, according to a report in Newsday.

Windisch, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away on June 16. He was 88.

According to a report on Newsday.com, he was a former Lindenhurst resident and owner of Windisch's Luncheonette, which not only sold ice cream and chocolate Easter bunnies for more than 20 years, but also created many fond memories for many Lindy locals, according to the same report.

Windisch was pre-deceased by his wife Eleanor, to whom he was married for 55 years. He was also pre-deceased by his brothers William and Frank.

A WWII veteran of the United States Navy, he served in the Atlantic Theater in the invasion of Normandy and the Pacific Theater, according to the report.

In addition, the report said Windisch received several medals, including a Purple Heart.

He was the loving father of Dorothy Lusk and Frederick Windisch, as well as the cherished grandfather of Todd and Dawn Lusk and Jillian Lusk.

A memorial service was held at Pinelawn Cemetery on Saturday, June 23.
