Car Accident on Straight Path Closes Portion of Road

A two-car accident closed Straight Path Southbound, North of Route 109, on the Lindenhurst/West Babylon border on Sunday.

A two-car accident on Straight Path at Route 109 on the North Lindenhurst/West Babylon border backed up traffic in the area on Sunday afternoon, and sent at least one person the hospital following the impact.

The crash occurred at around 2:10 p.m. at the intersection of Route 109 and Straight Path when a gray Mercury Villager minivan and red Saturn collided.

The minivan collided with a steel utility pole outside of a small strip mall on the Northwest corner of the intersection.

West Babylon Fire Department trucks and Suffolk County Police Officers were on the scene, helping at least three people involved in the crash. One person was confirmed to be taken on a stretcher by ambulance out of the scene.

While police and fire officials investigated the crash scene, the Southbound lanes of Straight Path north of Route 109 were shut down.

Patch will update this story as more details become available.
