Caught: Man Who Stole Leukemia Research Donation Jar Arrested

Mother of Isabella Pine announces the news Tuesday night.

UPDATE: Matthew Donadeo, 20, of Lindenhurst, was arrested Tuesday and charged with petty larceny in the theft of the jar, police said.

A week-long search for a man believed to have stolen a donation jar from a Lindenhurst 7-Eleven has ended with an arrest.

Dianne Pine, the manager of the store on N. Greene Avenue and the mother of late 8-year-old Isabella Pine, in whose honor the jar to collect cash for leukemia research was setup, announced the news on her Facebook page late Tuesday night.

"I'm so glad they finally caught him and I want to thank everyone who helped turn him in with all the tips everyone called about," Dianne Pine wrote.

Pine told WCBS 880 last week that more than $11,000 had been raised for cancer research since the jar was placed in the store right after Isabella's death. The jar had about $75 in it at the time it was stolen on the night of Feb. 3.
