Caught: Man Who Stole Leukemia Research Donation Jar Arrested

Mother of Isabella Pine announces the news Tuesday night.

UPDATE: Matthew Donadeo, 20, of Lindenhurst, was arrested Tuesday and charged with petty larceny in the theft of the jar, police said.

A week-long search for a man believed to have stolen a donation jar from a Lindenhurst 7-Eleven has ended with an arrest.

Dianne Pine, the manager of the store on N. Greene Avenue and the mother of late 8-year-old Isabella Pine, in whose honor the jar to collect cash for leukemia research was setup, announced the news on her Facebook page late Tuesday night.

"I'm so glad they finally caught him and I want to thank everyone who helped turn him in with all the tips everyone called about," Dianne Pine wrote.

Pine told WCBS 880 last week that more than $11,000 had been raised for cancer research since the jar was placed in the store right after Isabella's death. The jar had about $75 in it at the time it was stolen on the night of Feb. 3.

It should come as no surprise. Where is this piece of garbage from? Enough said.

I really think clothes designers need to stop making hoods on shirts and sweetheart shirts maybe these kids would be caught sooner. I am so very sorry Dianne for your loss and the disrespect that he did in your daughters name stealing 75.00 was it really worth it God will punish you for this.. God Bless the memory and what her Mom is doing to help research..

Don't worry, God has already punished Matt. I've known him since he was little, He was a great kid who got messed up because of his parents! Yes, I do believe that. Lived with his dad and stepmother. Dad couldn't care any less about him. Matt was always on his own, had to take care of his sick grandmother all the time. He played ball with my son for years, I saw dad at 2 games and even then he wasn't even watching the game. Sorry dad, I'm sure you gave way more time to the meals you created than the son you helped create.

First. Thank god he was caught. He is paying already from his disgrace and it will get worse when word spreads what he is in jail for .Don't think its going to be fun. Second. Jon Bay is right up there as a BIG LOSER as this guy.
jon bay February 13, 2014 at 10:25 AM
If speaking the truth makes me a loser in your eyes then i won't lose a second of sleep.
Johnny February 14, 2014 at 01:04 PM
Not to pile on, but I hope the $75 was worth the tarnishing of your name and the embarrasment brought to you and your family. You'll be forever defined locally by what you did.
DonGlover February 14, 2014 at 02:38 PM
Let me start off by saying this is a travesty, I've known the Donadeo's for some time now and my heart was broken when I found out that young Matthew had commited this haneous crime. But as far as Lindenhurst being the blame for this I couldnt disagree more, I have two daughters and a son all with masters degrees in there respected profession that graduated from Lindenhurst Senior High, It is not where we are from that defines us , but rather our actions @jon bay

Soooo can anyone who knows this tool bag shed some light on as to why he needed this money so much? And ab123. Although 30 days in the slammer might be a good thing. The chance of his spending 1 day in jail for petit larceny are zero. Unless of course he is in probation or parole.
Massa February 16, 2014 at 02:12 PM
This kid is a real dirtbag for stealing from a jar that is for a sick person. That is lower than low. It all starts with how you are raised. This kid had two parents and although his stepdad didn't care...... What about his mother? It dosn't have to do with where you are from. It has to do with how you were raised.
Sal Anthony February 16, 2014 at 04:40 PM
I hope he rots in hell!!!
Archy Bunka February 16, 2014 at 05:05 PM
At first I thought harshly of this kid. Then I read some of the post here. If i were the judge, I would give him a choice of the army, or time. He didn't rob a bank, he didn't use a gun. it was a morally reprehensible minor theft. Jail won't fix him, force him to do something with his life.
Massa February 16, 2014 at 07:30 PM
Nassau and Suffolk county need to start a boot camp for guys like this. Some discipline is what he needs.
John montalongo February 16, 2014 at 11:49 PM
Hey .... Give me your jar of coins...
Anthony Ennio Cavuoto February 17, 2014 at 09:41 AM
Stop blaming this on how he was raised. We are all raised by society and society knows that you shouldn't steal from the sick. He is probably in actuality just another scum bag who wanted 75 bucks to spend on getting high for the night.
Six Pack February 17, 2014 at 09:48 AM
AEC. Well said!

Karen Fay-Matthews February 17, 2014 at 11:07 AM
Actually, He is not a scum bag. He was a kid left to basically take care of himself and his sick Grandmother! I don't know why he didn't live with his mom but he lived with his father & stepmother. His father never had anything to do with him. His mom lived in a different town. Like I said earlier, my son played baseball with Matt for years, his father came to 2 games! Matt had all the cards against him since he was little. I hope his Dad is mortified because HE created this! And I know this for fact!!!!
Six Pack February 17, 2014 at 01:56 PM
Sooooo what caused this young mis guided man who grew up in a broken home to do this? Was he hungry and needed food?

Massa February 17, 2014 at 04:20 PM
Exactly what I said about a persons upbringing. If you don't have people in your life who don't give a crap about you.... It effects you later in life. It does start with your parents.
Archie Bunker February 17, 2014 at 04:29 PM
He is an adult and responsible for his choices.
Karen Fay-Matthews February 17, 2014 at 07:23 PM
Yea, he was probably hungry for the love and guidance from his family!
jane brokawk February 18, 2014 at 08:37 AM
Jon Bay is an idiot, right up there with Matthew. Really, saying look where he comes from. This happens everywhere. Doesn't matter if your from Lindenhurst or West Islip etc....Hope you don't live in Lindenhurst and if you do..leave we don't need your negativity here.
Archie Bunker February 18, 2014 at 09:57 AM
I know Karen, everyone is a victim here
jon bay February 19, 2014 at 09:29 AM
This sort of thing does happen elsewhere but our town is a haven for drunks & junkies. You need to get off your negativity soapbox, get your head out of the sand,&open your eyes and stop living in the past. The town is an eyesore. Wellwood looks like a zombie movie after dark. There are days that i see packs of kids ,cutting class, trespassing on properties all around the high school, yet when a complaint is made by a resident to the school NOTHING is done. Firemans Park is a haven for trouble and it looks like most of the rest of Lindy,a garbage dump..Shall I continue? This piece of trash is nothing more than a product of his environment. Unfortunately nothing will happen to this loser & he will go on to bigger things. Stealing cars, selling drugs, perhaps breaking into your house. Hey Archie, how ironic would that be?
