Fire Department Fights Backyard Blaze on S. 2nd St

Brush fire put out by department within minutes of arrival on the scene.

A backyard fire is out after the Lindenhurst Fire Department reportedly put it out earlier this afternoon on South 2nd Street in Lindenhurst.

A nearby neighbor told Patch the fire began at around 4:30 p.m. in the backyard of a home between East Hoffman Avenue and West Gates Avenue on South 2nd Street.

The Lindenhurst Fire Department reportedly hit the scene within minutes, downing the brush fire before it could get too close to the home.

The fire department and Suffolk County Police Department squad cars were reportedly still on the scene at around 5:30 p.m.

There was no immediate word on whether anyone was home at the time nor what started the fire.
