Lindenhurst Man Convicted of Child Porn Possession

A Lindenhurst man was convicted Tuesday of multiple charges of possession of child pornography, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.

Vincent Sparagano, a former director of production for the Lindenhurst-based Spotlight Players, was found guilty of four felony counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child. He faces up to one and one-third to four years in prison for each count (which may run consecutive due to his possession of four separate images of child pornography), Spota said in a news release.

A jury found the Sparagano, 44, not guilty on four other counts of possession of a sexual performance by a child, Spota said.

Sparagano was arrested in September 2012 after detectives from the Suffolk County Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Suffolk County Probation Department analyzed Sparagano’s cell phone and computer as part of the conditions of his probation. Images of child porn were found on the computer, police said.

Sparagano had been probation after being convicted of endangering the welfare of a child in Nassau County. In that incident, according to police, Sparagano sent multiple messages containing suggestive and inappropriate comments to a 14-year-old who was part of the theater group.

Sparagano was certified as a sex offender and following the guilty verdict Tuesday and bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. He will be sentenced on May 29.
