Lindenhurst Man Fatally Struck by Car

Howard Reich, 55, was attempting to cross Route 109 in East Farmingdale on Friday night, police say.

A Lindenhurst man was struck and killed by a car while attempting to cross a road in on Friday night, police said.

Howard Reich, 55, was walking across Route 109, near the Route 110 overpass, around 7:23 p.m. when he was hit by a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, police said. 

Reich was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said. 

Kenneth S. Simon, the driver of the Sonata, which was rented, was not injured, police said.

Simon, 54, of , was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license, police said. 

The Hyundai was impounded for a routine safety check.

Police are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the First Precinct at 631-854-8152.

How sad, I was traveling 109 East around 9:something pm at night, the body was still there, as I saw a big white sheet. I said to my husband, this must be a fatallaty. May the victim rest in peace, and his family receive comfort.

I graduated with Howie but we didn't really know each other. I am very sorry to hear of his tragic death. Prayers to family and friends of Howie.

Well I knew Howie very well we grew up toghether.... so strange i was thinking about him and his dog 2 days ago i remember when his dog died he came to my moms house i was in town visiting..he was very upset ... had to borrow a shovel i think his dogs name was seagrams?? Howie was a good person just lost.. he was good to his parents, well i pray for Howie he is at peace now.. My thoughts are with his sister. His only sibling God Bless. And yes he was a Character....R.I.P HOWIE

Jackie so sorry for your loss. Howie was a good hearted man and always a true friend to my brothers. Howie always had us all laughing. I will always remember the card games he would have with the guys in my parents house when they were younger. RIP Howie.

Oh the times we all had with Howie will stay with us forever, he was never boring always made me smile and always told me I was the #1 girl, he would tease Joseph all the time. Howie was very special person to Joe and I . I will always have a special place in heart for him. He was special in his own way. My prays go out to you and your family Jackie.

Jackie & Family, My deepest sympathies to you and family. I grew up with Howie and have so many good memories of him . he was good friend. I also worked (one season) with your father, Howie as well as Jim Benson's older brother Billy. It's been quite some time since I talked with Howie as I moved to Tampa over 20 years ago. But everytime I visit old Lindy I always ask about Howie. He will truely be missed. My Thoughts and Prayers go out to you and family

Jackie I am so very sorry to hear about Howie RIP. I did not know this happened I would have been there to pay my respects he was a great guy and did not deserve this to happen to him like this God Why are you taking all the good people when we have such bad.
