Lindy Two-Car Crash Sends Four to Good Sam

A gray station wagon and black SUV collided at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Straight Path in Lindenhurst.

A black SUV and a gray station wagon collided at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Straight Path late Tuesday afternoon, sending all four occupants from both cars to .

According to a sergeant at the Suffolk Police’s First Precinct, “there were no serious injuries.”

However, the man who drove the gray station wagon that ended up on the grass on top of the street sign on the southeast corner of the intersection had to be extricated using a Hurst tool.

“The elderly gentleman had to be extracted from the driver’s side,” said Chief James Gallagher of the , which responded with both ambulance units, heavy rescue and fire police, for crowd and traffic control to assist several Suffolk Police First Precinct units that were also on scene.

“He suffered injuries to his left arm and on his left side, so the outcome could’ve not been positive, but his injuries weren’t serious,” said Gallagher, who added that it took LFD Rescue “about a half an hour” to free the man.

In addition to the driver, the elderly female passenger of the station wagon was transported to Good Sam along with the mother who was driving the SUV and her child.

“The elderly woman suffered minor injuries. The mother had some minor facial injuries. The child was shaken up more than anything else,” explained Gallagher, who added that initially aviation was called, but was later canceled.

“The ETA was 20 minutes, so we canceled it and transported them by ground,” he said.

Assisting the was an ambulance and fire police from the , as well as an ambulance from the Copiague Fire Department.

“We sent mutual aid to the accident,” confirmed .

After Rescue left, only one SPCD unit stayed with the wrecked cars. The gray station wagon would have to be moved off the northeast corner of the intersection.

The SUV – which, said Gallagher, was in the middle of the intersection right after the crash happened – was sitting on the shoulder on the northwest corner in front of 7-Eleven. First Precinct Unit 114 sat right in front of it.
