UPDATED: 10-Year-Old Lindenhurst Boy Hit by Car Critically Injured

John Johnson was crossing Montauk Highway with his mother when he was struck, police say.

A 10-year-old boy from Lindenhurst is in critical condition in the hospital after he was hit by a car Saturday night, police said. 

John Johnson was crossing Montauk Highway at South 13th Street in Lindenhurst with his mother when he was struck by a 2008 Toyota Scion that was traveling west on Montauk Highway at about 8:30 p.m., police said. 

Johnson was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition with a head injury, police said. 

The driver of the Scion, Cory Pettit, 21, of Lindenhurst, and his female passenger were not injured in the crash. The Toyota was impounded for a safety check.

No criminality was involved in the crash, police said.
