A West Islip man was killed in a boat crash Saturday morning, June 23, on the Great South Bay, police said.
Christopher Mannino, 39, was one of five people aboard a 1967 38-foot Hatteras when it was struck by a 25-foot Skater off Captree Island around 4:50 a.m., police said.
Mannino was thrown into the water and was missing until a police dive team officer recovered his body at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Brian Andreski, 26, of Dix Hills, the operator of the Skater boat is charged with boating while intoxicated (BWI) following the crash under the Robert Moses Causeway.
Andreski is in the hospital being treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was issued a field appearance ticket for a later date. The one passenger on the Skater is also being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
After receiving a distressed call on the radio of the boat crash, Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau units found the Skater overturned with Andreski and his passenger in the water, police said.
The Hatteras had begun to sink upon impact. Four people were rescued uninjured from the fishing boat, but Mannino fell into the water during the crash, police said.
