A home healthcare worker was arrested Friday for stealing more than $81,000 worth of jewelry from a 73-year-old Garden City resident, according to village police.

Garden City detectives report that Sara Cruz, 25, of Lindenhurst was employed as a home healthcare worker from Aug. 1-29.

While employed by the 73-year-old female victim, the defendant removed assorted jewelry valued at approximately $81,750.00 from the residence on St. Pauls Place, police said.

Cruz was charged with second-degree grand larceny and arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Garden City detectives request anyone who feels they too may have been victimized by Cruz to call 465-4109.
