Police: Lindenhurst Pedestrian Killed in Crash

83-year-old woman dies after sustaining serious injuries in accident.

One woman is dead after she was hit by a car on Great East Neck Road in West Babylon on Monday afternoon.

Suffolk County Police said Amelia Couvertier, 83, of Lindenhurst, was attempting to cross Great East Neck Road at Montauk Highway in West Babylon at around 3:20 p.m. on Monday when a 2008 Toyota, driven by Carol Lawrence, 73, of North Lindenhurst, struck her while making a left turn onto Great East Neck Road.

Couvetier was seriously injured in the collision and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was later pronounced dead.

Lawrence was not injured in the crash. Her vehicle was impounded by Suffolk County Police for a safety check.

Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash and have not been interview to call the First Squad at (631) 854-8152.
