Police: Local Man Charged with Harassing LHS Student on School Grounds

According to the SCPD, a North Lindenhurst man was apprehended after allegedly approaching a female student on school grounds.

A North Lindenhurst man was arrested Monday after allegedly approaching a female student on school property, police said.

Police arrested North Lindenhurst resident Aristotle Demopoulos, 52, and charged him with harassment in the second degree.

According to a statement from Superintendent Richard Nathan posted on the Lindenhurst School District’s website, “On Monday, April 4, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a high school student was approached by a stranger and followed onto school property. The student reported the incident to the assistant principal and the district immediately contacted the Suffolk County Police Department who responded and apprehended the man.”

Police said he verbally asked a female student at the LHS to get in his car.

School district officials believe this situation was an isolated incident, and encourages all parents to review safety protocols with their children and urge them to report any suspicious behavior immediately. The district said it would also continue to stress safety precautions with students within the classroom.
