Police: Pregnant Lindenhurst Woman Hit by Car

Anika Vorndamme-Cajigal is hit in the parking lot of White Post Farms when a driver's foot slips off brake and onto gas pedal, police say.

A pregnant Lindenhurst woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a car in the parking lot of White Post Farms in Melville Saturday afternoon, Suffolk Police said. 

Police say Anika Vorndamme-Cajigal, 37, was standing near her car in the parking lot when she was hit by a 2004 Honda that was backing out of a parking spot.

The foot of the Honda’s driver, Edward Henselder, slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, and the Honda struck Vorndamme-Cajigal and five parked vehicles, police said. 

Vorndamme-Cajigal, who is six months pregnant, was transported by Melville Rescue to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including two pelvic fractures, police said.

Henselder, 79, of Melville, was not injured.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
