High Wind Warning in Effect as T-Storms Approach Lindy

An unseasonable storm and a cold front is approaching Lindenhurst and the surrounding Long Island area with potentially damaging winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Suffolk County ahead of a strong, stormy cold front pushing towards our area tonight that'll bring gusty winds, heavy rain and a possibility of thunder and lightning to Lindenhurst and the surrounding Long Island area.

The cold front approaching from the West is bringing severe weather to our South, including violent thunderstorm and tornadic activity in the deep South.

The front, while less violent to the North, will bring Long Island very heavy rainfall starting late Wednesday night as it begins to roll in.

A severe line of thunderstorms will be on the leading edge of the storm, bringing a strong possibility of thunder and cloud-to-ground lighting along with torrential downpours.

Strong rains will follow behind the storm before clearing out throughout the day on Thursday.

The high wind warning is in effect for all of Long Island, warning against sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour and gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.

Combined with an already soaked ground and additional rainfall, these strong winds could cause branches and trees to fall, as well as power outages.

Additional lightning strikes could also cause power to fail.

The cold front will end up pushing out to sea by afternoon Thursday, allowing for clearing skies and dropping temperatures as Canadian air flows back into the area.

Hi Lindy Native. Thanks for posting these photos. But could you e-mail me at barbara.loehr@patch.comRead More with the originals and some more details? The photos you posted are really blurry/bitmapped. I think if you send the originals and some more info, then a story could be put together for the news section of the site. Thanks!
