Lindenhurst Movie Theater Will Be Removed for New CVS Pharmacy

Developers already have permits for demolition of old village landmark.

The old Lindenhurst Movie Theater on Montauk Highway will be torn down to make way for a new CVS Pharmacy pending approval from the Department of Transportation, village officials said.

According to The Babylon Beacon, the 1.67-acre site at the northeast corner of Wellwood Avenue and Montauk Highway will be developed into a 12,592-square foot CVS Pharmacy.

Currently on the sites are two residential buildings and the old movie theater, which last played movies in the 1990's and most recently housed a boat showroom. All three will be demolished before construction begins.

"All of the traffic in and out will be from Montauk Highway which will keep it off Wellwood Avenue and Washington Avenue," deputy village clerk Doug Madlin told The Beacon. Residents voiced their concerns about the new pharmacy causing traffic issues on the two village streets.

The new pharmacy will replace the one currently operated in the middle of the village's business district. That building went up for rent earlier this year in preparation for the eventual move.

Plans reportedly call for a 24 foot high building with 69 parking spaces. Developers for the new building have already received a demolition permit from the village.
