Woman Threatens to Jump in Front of Train at Lindenhurst Station

Police removed an unidentified woman Thursday afternoon and service was later restored, according to LIRR officials.

A report of an unidentifed woman threatening to jump in front of train at the Lindenhurst station briefly halted service on the Babylon Branch of the Long Island Rail Road on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports a negotiator was called and EMS was on the scene on February 23 while service was stopped and power was shut off to the tracks.

According to LIRR officials, service was stopped for "about a half an hour at approximately 2 p.m. today while police removed a person from the tracks at the West end of the station."

LIRR officials also said that train service on the Babylon line was restored at 2:35 p.m.

According to the LIRR Twitter feed, the 1:22 p.m. train from Penn Station due in Babylon at 2:23 p.m. was delayed at Massapequa due to the police activity at Lindenhurst. The 2:08 p.m. and the 2:10 p.m. trains from Babylon to Penn were also delayed.

In all, officials said, six trains were affected – three westbound (one of which was canceled) and three eastbound - with delays up to 35 minutes.

No other information was released by the MTA LIRR, and Suffolk Police declined comment.
