McCaffrey Honored by Village For 23 Years of Service

Deputy mayor will resign January 1 to become new Suffolk County Legislator.

Lindenhurst's Deputy Mayor Kevin McCaffrey officially closed out his last village board meeting as a trustee on Tuesday, December 17 after nearly 24 years on the board.

McCaffrey, who will officially remain deputy mayor until the end of the year, will become the new county legislator for Suffolk County District 14, which includes Lindenhurst, Babylon Village and West Babylon.

"My daughter was only three-months old when I took ," said McCaffrey, who choked up a bit during an impromptu speech. "It’s been a great 23 ¾ years. I want to thank all the board members and the mayor – the best I’ve worked for."

Mayor Thomas Brennan presented McCaffrey with a plaque thanking him for his 24 years of service on the village board, many of which were spent as the second-in-command deputy mayor.

Village clerk-administrator Shawn Cullinane, who is on McCaffrey's transition team, said the deputy mayor had become the long-serving elected official in the village's history by far.

The village board took one final photograph, shown above, as a group moments before McCaffrey officially moved to close the meeting for the last time.

"I’m looking forward to moving on to my next adventure," said McCaffrey.

McCaffrey won the election against Democrat and fellow Lindenhurst resident Tom Dolan in November.

Cullinane said the village mayor could appoint a new trustee to the board to finish McCaffrey's term when he resigns.
