Hurricane Sandy - aka Frankenstorm - arrived in Lindenhurst on Monday, bringing major flooding South of Monatuk Highway.

On Tuesday much of South of Montauk Highway was still flooded, and much of the Village and North Lindenhurst - residents and businesses - was without power.

Trees and wires were down across Lindy, and many of the major intersections were still out down Wellwood Avenue to Montauk Highway, along Montauk Highway to Park Avenue, and up North at Wellwood and Straight Path and Sunrise Highway and Straight Path.

The National Guard and Suffolk Police had South Wellwood Avenue at Montauk Highway blocked off and the streets along Montauk blocked off to onlookers who wanted to see what's happening on Tuesday.

Lindenhurst officials were also discouraging pedestrian traffic, since where it's still flooded South of Montauk, they said, chemicals from home heating oil, cars and boats were starting to build in the flood waters.
