Repairs to Lindy Docks Are Complete

The final repairs to the Lindenhurst Docks have been completed this week, just as a new storm approaches Long Island.

A little more than a year since Irene tore apart the Charles J. McCowan Marina (Lindy Docks), the final repairs were completed this week.

Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane told Lindenhurst Patch on Wednesday afternoon the final repairs on the Docks were finished on Tuesday.

"All of the physical work is done, the asphalt was finished on Tuesday, and now there's just some clean-up work to be done," Cullinane said.

Stout Construction’s been working on the last phase of repairs - which included decking, substructure, hurricane straps, fill and new asphalt - since the Summer.

And because of several factors including weather and tides, the repairs - which the Village had hoped to have first done by July 4, then by August 15, then September 15 - were pushed back by about six weeks, Cullinane in September.

"It looks really good," he said about the finished Docks on Wednesday.

Now all that's left to do is figure out when and how to open the Southern portion back up to residents. For now that portion still remains closed to the public.

"We're waiting for the mayor to return to town, and see how we're going to handle how we'll let everyone know. We have the cake. Now it's a matter of how we cut the cake," he said on Wednesday.

On Thursday, as weather forecasts have a new storm threat, Hurricane Sandy, on a trajectory that puts Long Island square in her sights early next week, Cullinane said it wouldn't make sense to open it up right now.

"There's no immediate rush to do it right now," he said.

As for how the Docks would hold up in the face of the new storm threat, Cullinane was cautiously confident.

"We don't think there should be a problem with it newly rebuilt, but it's always a concern, and you never know. We hope the Marina will hold up," he said. "This would be a test to get some waves on it and see how it'll do."

Hi Lindy Native. Thanks for posting these photos. But could you e-mail me at barbara.loehr@patch.comRead More with the originals and some more details? The photos you posted are really blurry/bitmapped. I think if you send the originals and some more info, then a story could be put together for the news section of the site. Thanks!
