Talk Back: Should Public Meetings Be Broadcast?

Lindenhurst, what do you think?

There are many board meetings that take place in Lindenhurst each month - from Village and Town meetings to Lindenhurst Board of Education meetings.

But not many residents attend, or are able to attend. That could be the result of busy schedules, not being aware of the meetings or the actual meeting times.

However, to help residents and raise awareness over in the Town of North Hempstead back in February, the Town's Building Department summit was streamed, as were more recent redistricting hearings.

Meanwhile, also back in February, the Town's board voted against televising meetings on the Town's channel or streaming them live online.

So, Lindy, what do you think?

Should Town, Village and school board meetings be broadcast?

Do you think that would help get more residents involved? Keep them better informed?

I guess someone doesn't understand the definition of "public".

I think their minutes shoud at least be posted on the web sites, I belive that it's required of fire districts to do so but most do not.
It would be a good start to at least be able to read about what goes on, I do not think I would watch a video of an entire meeting to find out the things I could read in 2 minutes or less.

I believe these meetings should be streamed , not only would it result in better informed voters but it would give access to individuals who truly can't reach the meetings.

Most meeting are during working hours making it impossible for a lot to attended. The schedule of board meetings should also be posted on the home page of the Town and Village websites in advance. After the meetings, the notes should be posted so all residents can be informed.

With regard to school board meetings, all agendas and minutes are on the school website. This has been available to the public for approximately two years.
