Village Begins Text Messaging to Keep Powerless Residents Informed
Text 'VOL' to 411247 to get the latest storm updates from the Village of Lindenhurst, says Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane.
With so many residents still without power South of Montauk Highway in the Village of Lindenhurst in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy - and in the face of a new Noreaster due on Wednesday - officials have set up a text messaging system to keep residents informed.
"Deputy Mayor Kevin McCaffrey set that up yesterday, so we're looking to get the word out about it," Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane told Lindenhurst Patch on Tuesday morning.
Cullinane said text "VOL" to 411247 and residents will "be locked in to get storm updates from the Village. Then they just have to watch for text messages to come from the Village."
