Village Concerned about Thurs. Night's High Tide
After flood waters overnight into Thursday morning rose to within inches of breaching homes South of Montauk Highway already hit hard after Sandy, Lindenhurst officials say this evening's high tide could be as bad.
Lindenhurst residents hit hard after Hurricane Sandy took another hit thanks to the flooding associated with the Winter storm that's expected to continue to impact the area into Friday.
Flooding South of Montauk
According to Ray Fais, emergency manager for the Village, late Thursday afternoon, "Our tide this morning was pretty bad. We were inches from flooding in houses. We just made it, but it took quite a while for the tide to depart."
"The Department of Public Works reported that we had flooding to Shore Road and South of Shore Road," Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane also told Lindenhurst Patch late Thursday afternoon.

The DPW also had to dig out the outflow for Shore Road which was packed with sand - something that tends to happen in storms with coastal flooding issues, Fais noted.
As of mid-afternoon on Thursday, Fais said most streets were fully cleared, except for "a couple of spots like South Wellwood Avenue and South Bay Street, which still had water."

More Flooding Concerns
But even though there are no more coastal warnings, watches or advisories for Lindenhurst, it's that slow tide departure that has him concerned about this evening high tide that's expected to hit just after 6 p.m. tonight (according to Fais, who uses tidal data for Bergen Point).
That's because we didn't get as much departure because of the storm and astronomical high tides - though nothing on the level experienced during Sandy, Fais said.
He also said as a result many of the areas with last night's high tide at 5 p.m. were still flooded when high tide came again early Thursday morning.
Now while both Fais and Cullinane said the work the Village did after Sandy to clear the storm drains has gone along way in draining the streets during a storm with coastal flooding issues like this, Fais said he was concerned the same type of flooding that happened Wednesday into Thursday morning could happen overnight into Friday morning.
Fais was heading back out late Thursday afternoon once again to assess the situation.
No Wind Damage or Power Outages
Fais and Cullinane both said there weren't any reports of downed trees or limbs in the Village as a result of the storm's high winds overnight, that have since died down.
And LIPA reported there no storm-related power outages in Lindenhurst. Residents could report outages to LIPA online or by calling 800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900.
Ready for Potential Snow
"We're on guard for any potential snow, and we're ready and keeping an eye on the weather reports," according to Cullinane and Mayor Tom Brennan.
"We might get an inch or two of snow overnight tonight," Fais said.
Cullinane and Brennan advised residents to keep their cars off the streets in case the predicted snow does come overnight to allow the DPW to salt and sand - and plow, if accumulations are higher.
They also advised residents to keep cars safe during the high tides associated with this storm to move them to their front lawns, as the lawns are usually on higher ground and Shore Road Park has experienced flooding, as especially evidenced during Sandy.
Residents with any non-emergency, storm-related issues should call the DPW at 631-957-7520.
If residents have an emergency during the storm, then they should call 911.
For fire emergencies residents could call 631-226-1212.
According to Cullinane and Brennan, there were no storm-related rescues or incidents overnight into Thursday responded to by the Lindenhurst Fire Department.
