Village Hires Traffic Consultant to Examine CVS Plan

Lindenhurst Village board wants closer look at traffic impact; architect consultant also tapped to review.

The Lindenhurst Village board voted unanimously at its Tuesday to hire a special traffic consultant and a special architectural consultant in connection with the proposed erection of a CVS Pharmacy at the corner of Montauk Highway and Wellwood Avenue.

The move came after David Woods, president of the Heer Park/Meridale Civic Association, passed out a letter to the board expressing his organization's concerns about "potential hotspots" in the planned work, and stating that his civic association is avidly against the building.

Woods also questioned which version of the plan is under consideration, saying that based on what he's seen, the planning board and the zoning board might not be looking at the same set of plans.

Prior to the vote Mayor Tom Brennan stated the board is "not happy" with certain elements of the proposal.

"We're very concerned about the parking plan," said Brennan. "We're not happy with the 24 hours. As for the drive-through, I believe that has been withdrawn, but we'll have to clarify this."

To be hired are Philip Cimino, traffic engineer, at $185 per hour for engineering and planning work, and $145 per hour for technician work. Also to be hired is Stephen Fellman, RA, a special architectural consultant to the Village, at a rate of $125 per hour. The expenses are to be paid by the applicant, pursuant to Village code.
