Bulldogs Fall to Ward Melville in Homecoming Game

The Lindenhurst High School Varsity Football team starts strong, but Ward Melville wins the day on Saturday, according to published report.

Despite a strong showing by the Lindenhurst High School Varsity Football team in the first half of the Homecoming Game at the Lindenhurst Middle School Field on Saturday, Ward Melville won the game 27 to 21.

According to a report on Newsday.com, Brendan Nieves blocked a 38-yard field goal attempt in overtime, and Jake Biro followed with an 18-yard scramble to set up a game-winning, one-yard touchdown run by Brendan Hegarty as Ward Melville (4-1) came back to defeat Lindenhurst (1-4) in Suffolk I.

Biro connected with Brendan Dooley for a 24-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter to tie the game as Ward Melville erased what had been a 21-0 second quarter deficit, the report said.

Biro completed 15 of 25 passes for 149 yards and rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries, and Hegarty finished with 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, the report said.

Among the highlights for Lindenhurst included Kevin Harvey, who  "had an 11 run (Dan Alzaraki kick) and four run (Alazraki kick)," according to the report.

Lindy's Matt Colton also "had a 15 fumble return (Alazraki kick)," according to the same report.
