Lindenhurst Middle School Presents 'Damn Yankees'

A talented cast of Lindenhurst Middle School thespians drew a packed house for recent weekend performances of the musical comedy “Damn Yankees.”

The show, which was directed by Karen Kanavas and Marie Simmons, is set in the 1950s during a time when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball. The talented young cast and crew entertained audiences with their renditions of “Heart,” “A Little Brains, a Little Talent” and “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets.”

The gifted cast included Friday and Saturday performances by students Sean Young and Adrian Fernandez as middle-aged real estate agent Joe Boyd. The parts of Joe’s wife Meg were played by Mae Vine and Hailey Schmidt while the parts of the slick talking Applegate and seductive Lola were played by Sal Copolla, Ivan Collado and Leah Jilling. The brilliant efforts of the entire cast and crew resulted in truly entertaining performances.

This year’s performance marks 20 years of successful shows under the direction of Ms. Simmons and Ms. Kanavas, whose first show was “The Wizard of Oz.” The success of the musicals over the years has had much to do with the volunteer cast of staff and community members who, year after year, provide their services to ensure the shows go off without a hitch. The district congratulates all involved for yet another year and another musical success.
