The Lindenhurst High School Varsity Boys Volleyball team is heading upstate this weekend to play in the New York State Championship tournament.
The team, which finished the Fall season with a 9-2 record, won the right by defeating Massapequa on Tuesday night to become the Long Island Champions.
Last year the Bulldogs captured the Suffolk County crown to face Massapequa in the Division I Long Island Championship game, only to fall to the Chiefs.
This year the Bulldogs reversed their fortune when they took the title from the Chiefs at Westhampton Middle School on November 13 by a score of 3-1.
According to Newsday.com, Chris DeLucie had five kills, four blocks, 37 assists and five service aces in Lindenhurst’s 3-1 Division I finals win over Massapequa.
The team will now play in the NYSPHSAA Championship tournament this Saturday, November 16, 8 p.m. at the Glens Falls Civic Center (Section II).
According to SectionXI.org, the team will play in Class A, Pool Play. Class A and B Finals will take place on Sunday, November 18.
The Lindenhurst School District posted a message about the win and the team adavancing to the NYS Championship this weekend on its website, with photos of the team.
It read, in part, "Congratulations to the Lindenhurst High School Boys Volleyball team on becoming the 2012-2013 Long Island Champions....Go Bulldogs!"
