Lindy Community Enjoys an 'Evening of Dance'

Members of the Lindenhurst community recently enjoyed the 10th annual “Evening of Dance” performances held at Lindenhurst High School.

The evening was filled with beautiful music, dancers and costumes. The high school dance program is one of the few on Long Island taught by an accredited dance teacher, Kristine Lyons, and attracts serious dance students.

Students enrolled in the program worked hard to present a show that was a diverse representation of dancing styles. With more than 20 performances, students demonstrated dance genres including ballet, modern, lyrical, jazz, hip hop and more. The colorful costumes provided the dancers with an opportunity to grace the stage with flair in fashion as well as movement.

“We are fortunate to have such a fine and successful program to offer our students,” said Rose Marvel, coordinator of music and fine arts. “Dance is one of the performing arts – like music, theater and the visual arts – that is core to learning our 21st century skills. This program promotes critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and innovation as well as accountability, leadership and responsibility, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
