Lindy Lens Video: Class of 2011 President's Message

Miranda Freilich talks about hard work in her Lindenhurst HS graduation speech; her hard work earns $5K scholarship to SUNY Oswego.

Lindy Pride was in full display by the Class of 2011, even as the threat of rain and a cloud of mist at the start of the graduation on the last Friday night of June threatened to derail the ceremony.

The rain stayed at bay, and Class of 2011 President Miranda Freilich was able to give her speech to her fellow seniors, turned graduates, and their families, all eager to celebrate the culmination of four years of hard work.

In Freilich’s case hard work has resulted in a $5,000 merit scholarship from SUNY Oswego, the college she’s chosen to attend.

The $5,000 Dean’s Award “recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success,” according to a recent press release.

The awards are part of more than $2.5 million in merit scholarship money offered at SUNY Oswego. These funds are in addition to the more than $66 million in need-based grants, loans and work-study awards that SUNY Oswego students receive annually.

Highlights

In her speech she was grateful for the chance at being class president, and thanked teachers and families on behalf of the Class of 2011 for their help on the path to graduation.

“I speak for my entire class when I say that without our families’ love and guidance during our pursuit of education over these last four years we would never have survived,” she said.

Freilich continued: “Years from now we will look back and appreciate what a special part of our lives these 18 years have been.”

She referenced her speech four years before at her class’ graduation from Lindenhurst Middle School, noting that she and her class stood in the pouring rain waiting to embark on their high school years, and how this ceremony on a cloudy, misty night at the very end of June marked the end of that chapter.

“Look at us now: we have grown, matured and proved that with hard work and perseverance we can succeed,” Freilich said.
