Good Sam Honors Volunteers from Lindy, Babylon Town

The West Islip hospital recognizes several Guild members - including those from Lindenhurst and the nearby Babylon Town area - for their thousands of hours of volunteer work.

Good Samaritan Hospital recently recognized several Guild members - including those from Lindenhurst and the nearby Babylon Town area - for their thousands of hours of volunteer work.

According to a new release from the West Islip hospital, Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild’s members Ruth Johnson and Claire Runyon have collectively reached "an amazing milestone, having contributed 18,000 and 32,755 hours, respectively, in volunteer work."

The Guilds are groups of individuals who work "diligently for the benefit of the medical center," said Good Sam officials in the release.

The volunteers organize community activities, staff the hospital gift shop, hold annual fund raising events and operate an offsite thrift shop to support Good Sam.

In 2012 the Guilds raised more than $268,000, with more than 40,000 hours of service donated, as well.

In addition to Johnson and Runyon's volunteer work being recognized Good Sam recognized other Guild members for their volunteer work.

Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild member Rosella Brink and Great South Bay’s Guild member Ingeburg Luttmann have contributed 30,077 and 33,842 hours, respectively, in volunteer work," according to the release.

Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild members Adele Reve, Ann Bukowski, Great South Bay Guild member Judy Jackson and Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild member Alice Weckerle have also contributed 14,000, 13,000, 12,000 and 12,000 hours, respectively, in volunteer work, the release said.

Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild members Vera Meinhold, Millie Davino, Marguerite Toscano and Mary Armbruster and Great South Bay Guild member Terese Weber have contributed 7,000 hours each in volunteer work, according to the release.

Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild members Connie Savona and Beatrice Stysiack and Wyandanch Guild member Bertha Wallace, along with Dix Hills/Deer Park Guild member Susan Grippa, have contributed 6,000 and 5,000 hours, respectively, in volunteer work, according to the release.

Dix Hills/Deer Park Guild member Catherine Petke, Copiague/Massapequa/Amityville Guild member Laurie Feldscher and Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild members Margaret DeRidder and Aida Berrios and Dix Hills/Deer Park Guild member Eileen Klimczuk and Lindenhurst/North Babylon Guild members Joanna Langon and Robert Gschwind having contributed 2,000, 1,000, 2,000 and 1,000 hours, respectively, in volunteer work, the release said.

In addition, Great South Bay Guild members Olivia Lazio, Nancy O’Keefe and Bernadette Nee have contributed 11,000 hours each while Wyandanch Guild member Sara Banks has contributed 10,000 hours in volunteer work, according to the release.

Plus, Great South Bay’s Guild members Gail Sullivan and Frederick Tucker, Copiague/Massapequa/Amityville Guild members Rose Cappiello and Marie Nicharico, Great South Bay Guild member Gloria Bracken and Dix Hills/Deer Park Guild member Dorothy Luchtenberg have contributed 9,000, 8,000 and 7,000 hours, respectively, in volunteer work, the release said.

Dix Hills/Deer Park Guild member Rita Schroeder, Great South Bay Guild members Jacqueline Diaz and Marilyn Roberts have reached  4,000, and 5,000 volunteer hours, respectively, the release noted.
