Harding Teacher Honored by Suffolk Zone

Richard Price, physical education teacher for the Lindenhurst elementary school, has been named teacher of the year.

Richard Price, physical education teacher at in Lindenhurst, was recently honored as the Suffolk Zone Teacher of the Year.

The TOY award recognizes individuals for excellence in teaching and overall performance in the disciplines of physical education at the elementary, middle and secondary levels; adapted physical education; health education; and dance education.

The recipient of the honor must also be a professional member of the NYS AHPERD for at least five years.

Price conducts a variety of physical education programs at Harding Avenue, including Fitness Gram; Fitness Assessment; Walk, Jog and Run against Hunger; Noodle Fun; Care to Share; and Adventure Night, according to officials.

He's also instrumental in securing grants to conduct existing programs such as Jump Rope for Heart and The Circus Comes to Town, officials further noted.

“Mr. Price is always positive and leads by example,” said Harding Avenue Principal Brian Chamberlin. “He continues to implement nutrition lessons into his curriculum to help promote healthy lifestyles.”
