Beautification after Sandy Effort Continues in Lindy

Largest 'crews' of volunteers set for April 12, 13 and 14, according to the Lindenhurst Rotary Club.

The biggest weekend for the Lindenhurst Beautification after Sandy effort is coming this weekend, according to the Lindenhurst Rotary Club.

"Our biggest weekend is coming up. I can't thank all of the volunteers enough who have and are giving of their time and energy to help all of our neighbors whose property was flooded by Superstorm Sandy," said Rotary President Jackie Milton.

In fact, a Rotary and two Interact Clubs are coming in from Gilford, New Hampshire to help this April 12, 13 and 14.

They'll join the Town of Babylon, Lindenhurst Rotary and Interact, plus neighbors and other organizations from across Long Island.

"The sun will be shining down on all of our wonderful volunteers," Milton said, who later noted the plan is to complete 80 homes this weekend.

This is an on-going process, and the Lindy Rotary Club expects to have all 180 homes which registered raked by May 12.

None of this could have been made possible without the wonderful volunteers who were ready, willing and able to give up a day or days to help. It's truly amazing how many people from all across Long Island want to help," she said.

The give-backs have ranged from donating food for the volunteers from New Hampshire who'll be here for three days and making a contribution to our Relief Fund to volunteering to help.

"Everyone truly lives up to the Rotary motto, 'Service above Self,'" Milton said.
